3/4" Floating Dock Line
Heavy-Duty Floating Dock Line for Larger Boats
Hot Boat Ropes 3/4" Floating Dock Lines are built for larger, heavier recreational boats that need a substantial dock line with serious strength and a confident feel in hand.
Made from 100% solid-braid polypropylene, our 3/4" dock line floats, remains flexible, and is easy to manage for its size.
With an approximate tensile strength of 8,800 lbs., this is the largest and strongest dock line in the Hot Boat Ropes lineup and is recommended for many larger boats up to approximately 60 feet, depending on boat weight, docking conditions, cleat size, and intended use.
Why Choose a 3/4" Dock Line?
The 3/4" diameter is designed for boaters who want a heavier-duty dock line with more strength, more line mass, and a more substantial feel.
It is a strong choice when:
- Your boat is larger or heavier
- You have larger boat or dock cleats
- Your boat has significant windage
- You frequently dock in exposed conditions
- You want a larger-diameter line for easier grip
- You prefer maximum strength within our standard dock-line range
For larger recreational boats, 3/4" provides a strong combination of durability, handling, and confidence.
3/4" Dock Line Features
- 100% solid-braid polypropylene

- Soft and flexible construction
- UV-resistant

Choose Your Loop Size
Hot Boat Ropes 3/4" Dock Lines are available with three finished loop sizes.
9" Loop
The 9" loop is the most compact option.
It works well when:
- Your boat uses smaller cleats
- You prefer a tighter loop
- You do not need to pass the loop over larger dock hardware
12" Loop
The 12" loop is a good all-around choice for many larger recreational boats.
It provides more clearance over cleats and is easier to handle while staying compact.
15" Loop
The 15" loop provides the most room and flexibility.
It is especially useful for:
- Large boat cleats
- Larger dock cleats
- Pilings
- Dock hardware requiring additional clearance
- Boaters who prefer a larger loop for easier handling
Loop size is measured inside the finished loop.
Heavy-Duty Sewn Loop Construction
A heavy-duty dock line needs a strong finished loop.
Hot Boat Ropes forms each loop using heavy-duty webbing and reinforced sewn construction.
Depending on the rope size and intended application, we use multiple X-Box stitch patterns to reinforce the connection.
This gives you a clean, ready-to-use loop without relying on a permanent knot.
Built for Larger and Heavier Boats
Larger boats place more load on their dock lines.
Boat weight, windage, wakes, dock exposure, and the amount of time the boat stays tied up all affect the forces placed on the line.
Our 3/4" Floating Dock Line is well suited for many:
- Larger cruisers
- Large pontoon boats
- Cabin boats
- Larger deck boats
- Larger recreational powerboats
- Heavy fishing boats
- Other substantial recreational boats
Why Use a Floating Dock Line?
A floating dock line offers several practical advantages around larger recreational boats.
Easier to See
If the line falls into the water, it stays at or near the surface, making it easier to locate.
Easier to Retrieve
A floating rope is easier to recover than a line that immediately sinks below the surface.
Helps Reduce Prop-Fouling Risk
Because the rope floats instead of dropping quickly beneath the boat, it can help reduce the chance of loose rope sinking into the propeller area.
Proper line management is always important around a running engine or propeller.
What Length Dock Line Should I Choose?
Dock-line length depends on your boat size and how you use it.
A useful starting point is:
Bow and stern lines: approximately two-thirds of the boat's length
Spring lines: approximately the full length of the boat
For larger boats, 25- to 40-foot dock lines may be practical depending on the boat and dock setup.
Longer lines are especially useful for:
- Spring-line duty
- Larger slips
- Awkward dock cleat spacing
- Rafting
- Backup or spare lines
How Many Dock Lines Should I Carry?
For most recreational boats, we recommend carrying at least four dock lines.
A more versatile setup is six lines:
- Four primary bow and stern lines
- Two longer lines for spring-line use, unusual docks, or backup
Larger boats often benefit from carrying additional lines, especially when docking in exposed or unfamiliar locations.

Is 3/4" Dock Line Right for My Boat?
3/4" dock line is a strong choice for larger, heavier recreational boats and more demanding docking situations.
It may be especially appropriate if:
- Your boat is heavy for its length
- Your boat has substantial windage
- You have large cleats
- You dock in areas with more wind or wake activity
- You want a larger line than 5/8"
- You prefer a substantial rope that is easy to grip
Boat length alone should not determine your dock-line size.
Boat weight, cleat size, exposure, dock configuration, and intended use should all be considered.
