5/8" Center-Snap Double Bow Line
One Line. Two Working Ends. One Center-Mounted Snap Hook.
Hot Boat Ropes 5/8" Center-Snap Bow Line is made from one continuous length of floating solid-braid polypropylene, with a snap hook securely sewn into the center of the line.
The center snap hook attaches to the boat’s bow eye, leaving a working length of rope extending to both the port and starboard sides of the boat.
For example:
16' Total Line Length = Approximately 8' to Port + Center Snap Hook + Approximately 8' to Starboard
This simple, practical setup keeps a usable bow line available on either side of the boat without attaching or storing two separate lines.
How the Center-Snap Bow Line Works
The snap hook is positioned at the midpoint of the finished line.
Clip the center snap hook onto your boat’s bow eye, and the two working ends extend toward opposite sides of the boat.
A 16' Center-Snap Bow Line provides approximately:
8' Port Side + Center Snap + 8' Starboard Side
When you approach a dock, use the working end on the side of the boat facing the dock.
No need to move a bow line from side to side. No searching for a second line.
Why Use a Center-Snap Bow Line?
Docking conditions are not always predictable.
Sometimes the dock is on the port side. Other times it is on the starboard side.
Wind, marina layout, fuel docks, launch ramps, available slips, and traffic can all determine which side of the boat needs a working line.
The Center-Snap Bow Line gives you:
- One line attached at the bow eye
- Two working rope ends
- A line available on either side of the bow
- Less need to move lines from side to side
- Fewer separate lines to manage
- A clean, organized bow setup
Attaches Directly to the Bow Eye
The center-mounted snap hook attaches to the boat’s bow eye.
The bow eye is typically located on the forward face of the hull, above the waterline and below the deck.
Once you attach the snap hook, the line stays centered at the bow while the two working ends extend toward port and starboard.
This makes the line especially useful around:
- Courtesy docks
- Fuel docks
- Marina slips
- Launch docks
- Restaurant docks
- Unfamiliar docking areas
Always inspect the bow eye and keep it in good condition.
Why Choose 5/8" Line?
The 5/8" diameter is designed for boaters who want a heavier, more substantial bow line for larger recreational boats.
With an approximate rope tensile strength of 5,600 lbs., the 5/8" line provides considerably more strength than our 7/16" size while remaining flexible and manageable.
The 5/8" size provides:
- A larger, more substantial feel
- Increased strength for heavier boats
- Good flexibility
- Easy handling for its size
- More surface area on larger cleats
- A practical choice for many boats up to approximately 40 ft
Boat weight, wind exposure, cleat size, dock configuration, and intended use should also be considered when selecting line diameter.

Heavy-Duty Center Snap Construction
The center snap connection is one of this line's most important features.
Hot Boat Ropes secures the snap hook at the midpoint using heavy-duty webbing and reinforced sewn construction.
We use multiple X-Box stitch patterns to reinforce the center connection.
This creates a clean, purpose-built attachment point while maintaining two usable working ends.
Two Working Ends From One Attachment Point
The advantage of the Center-Snap Bow Line is straightforward:
One attachment point. Two usable ends.
For a 16' line:
Port Working End — Approx. 8'
Center Snap Hook — Attaches to Bow Eye
Starboard Working End — Approx. 8'
Use whichever end is on the boat's dock side.
Why Floating Rope?
Hot Boat Ropes uses 100% solid-braid polypropylene, which floats.
That provides several practical advantages around the dock.
Easier to See
If one end falls into the water, it stays at or near the surface, making it easier to locate.
Easier to Retrieve
A floating line is easier to recover than a rope that immediately sinks.
Better Line Awareness
Because the rope stays near the surface, it is easier to see where loose line is located.
Floating rope does not eliminate the possibility of propeller fouling. Always keep loose lines away from running engines, propellers, and drives.
Choosing the Right Length
The listed product length is the total finished length of the line, with the snap hook positioned approximately at the midpoint.
Examples:
16' Total Length = Approximately 8' per side
20' Total Length = Approximately 10' per side
24' Total Length = Approximately 12' per side
Choose the total length based on how much usable rope you want available from the bow eye to each side of the boat.
Larger boats may benefit from additional working length, particularly when docking at unfamiliar marinas or docks with widely spaced cleats.
Available Colors
