Premium Floating Bow Line for Recreational Boats Up to 24 Feet

Hot Boat Ropes 7/16" Single Bow Line is designed to give recreational boaters a strong, easy-to-handle line for controlling and securing the bow of the boat during docking.

Made from 100% solid-braid polypropylene, our 7/16" bow line floats, stays soft and flexible, and is easy to coil, store, and handle around the dock.

With an approximate tensile strength of 2,600 lbs., the 7/16" size is a practical choice for many bowriders, fishing boats, ski boats, runabouts, pontoons, and other recreational boats up to approximately 24 feet.

Why Use a Dedicated Bow Line?

A bow line helps control the front of the boat when approaching, leaving, or tying up at the dock.

Having a dedicated bow line ready makes docking easier because you don't have to search for a loose piece of rope or move a line from another position on the boat.

A dedicated bow line is useful for:

  • Pulling the bow toward the dock
  • Keeping the bow from drifting away
  • Helping control the boat while passengers board or exit
  • Securing the boat during short stops
  • Keeping a line ready at the bow for everyday docking

Why Choose a 7/16" Bow Line?

The 7/16" diameter offers an excellent balance of strength, flexibility, and easy handling.

It works especially well on smaller to mid-size recreational boats where a larger rope may be unnecessarily bulky.

The 7/16" size provides:

  • Comfortable handling
  • Good flexibility
  • Easy coiling and storage
  • Compatibility with many common recreational boat cleats
  • Strong everyday docking performance
  • A lighter, easier-to-manage line than larger diameters

7/16" Single Bow Line Features

  • 100% solid-braid polypropylene
  • Recommended for many recreational boats up to approximately 24 ft
  • Floats at or near the water's surface
  • Soft and flexible construction
  • UV-resistant
  • Resistant to rot and mildew
  • Colorfast construction
  • No separate inner core
  • Heavy-duty sewn loop
  • Reinforced webbing
  • Multiple X-Box stitch patterns
  • Made in the USA

Heavy-Duty Sewn Loop

The finished loop is one of the most important parts of a bow line.

Hot Boat Ropes forms the loop using heavy-duty webbing and reinforced sewn construction.

Depending on the line size and intended application, we use multiple X-Box stitch patterns to create a strong, secure finished connection.

This gives you a clean, ready-to-use loop you can place over an appropriate boat or dock cleat without tying a permanent knot.

Why Use a Floating Bow Line?

Floating rope provides several advantages around recreational boats.

Easier to See

If the bow line falls into the water, it stays at or near the surface, making it easier to locate.

Easier to Retrieve

A floating line is much easier to recover from the water than one that sinks out of sight.

Helps With Propeller Awareness

Because the line stays closer to the surface, it is easier to see and manage around the boat.

Floating rope does not eliminate the risk of propeller fouling. Always keep loose lines away from running engines, drives, and propellers.

What Length Bow Line Should I Choose?

A practical starting point for a bow line is approximately two-thirds of the boat's length.

For many recreational boats up to 24 feet, 10- to 20-foot bow lines work well, depending on the boat and typical dock setup.

A slightly longer line can provide more flexibility when:

  • Dock cleats are farther apart
  • The dock sits higher or lower than expected
  • You need more reach
  • You use the line as a temporary spring line
  • You frequently dock in unfamiliar locations

It is usually better to have a little extra line than to come up short.
